"Prattsburgh, New York is located on Rt.53 in the northern
part of Steuben County. Narcissa Prentiss Whitman, born in Prattsburgh,
March 14,1808, is Prattsburghs most famous person. You can visit
the Narcissa Prentiss House during the summer. Captain Joel Pratt,
the pioneer proprietor of the town, married Mary Beach Fowler,
and in the year of 1799, visited this area on horseback. The
first family to settle in Prattsburgh was Jared Pratt from Spencertown,
Columbia County, and his young bride, who came here on an ox
sled with a load of household goods in 1801."
